ASAT Camo Whitetail Hunters Guide 2025

I’ve been wearing ASAT Camo for many years now.

I can’t ever see myself changing. It’s just proven to be so effective and has bailed me out of situations where I would have definitely been busted in the past.

But in those many years of wearing it, I always thought “man there should be a guide on all these different garments”. As a business and seller of ASAT Camo we get questions all the time on which garments are best for different applications. But I tend to answer those questions privately over the phone or through messages.

As I’m writing this in Mid November, I’ve layered up and down with clothing more times than I can remember as I grind it out in the deer woods. So, it’s all very fresh in my mind; what I put on, when I put it on, and how cold I was on those brutal windy cold all day November rut sits.

In this article I'm going to cover what I wear for whitetail hunting in particular. There are a few other garments that might be more popular for western hunting but since I’m a whitetail guy hunting in the midwest I’m going to cover what I know best. Someday I will write an article and make a video on each specific garment for whitetail hunters but this one will be on what I’m personally wearing this season.

Base Layers

Let's start from the first things I put on. I don’t think there's a time I don’t wear ASAT Bedrock Merino Wool base layers, even in warmer temps these are the first things I put on. I can recall a couple super warm early season days where I was only wearing base layers, and since they’re all camo you’re good to go. The ability to regulate heat and moisture makes Merino Wool the ultimate first layer against your skin. Personally I like the ¼ zip ASAT Bedrock Merino Wool top best since it’s easy to get on and you can leave it unzipped for the walk in. I pair that with the ASAT Bedrock Merino Wool bottoms.

Mid Layers

One of my favorite garments from ASAT is the Hurstwic line. If the temps are on the warmer side this is my next layer over the base layers. When the temps start to dip I add another layer of some fleece pants and shirt under the Hurstwic set. That fleece layer could be anything, it doesn’t have to be camo since it’s not going to see the light of day anyway.

The Hurstwic set is a soft shell type of material which is super quiet, it has a soft lightly insulated interior, beads water (water resistant not waterproof), and is burr resistant! It’s also well vented with strategic vent holes around the groin on the Hurstwic pants and with arm pit zippers on the Hurstwic jacket. Both the jacket and pants have a bunch of very well positioned pockets and quiet zippers for storing necessary gear that needs to be in easy/quiet reach. The jacket also has a hood. For walking through the woods you just can’t beat the Hurstwic set. No snags, no burrs, quiet, and the athletic cut and stretchiness of the material make it very pleasant to maneuver in. It’s my go to layer for the walk in and outer layer for mild temps.

Outer Layers

Once It starts to get cold the outer layers come with me. As I mentioned above I like the Hurstwic jacket and pants for the walk in. I pack my outer layers with me and once I’ve cooled down I put them on at the base of the tree. If I have a very short or easy walk to my stand I have put my Extreme Ultimate Pants on but they can get toasty if you have to exert yourself at all. Most of the time however, I’ll put the Extreme Ultimate Pants on at the base of the tree and then make my climb up.

Once I get in the stand and cool down from the climb I’ll bring out the jacket layers. What I like to do is take off my Hurstwic Jacket, and put on my ASAT Puffy Jacket, then put the Hurstwic Jacket back on over the top. The ASAT Puffy is extremely warm! Having it closer to your body to trap the heat works the best and then having the quiet Hurstwic Jacket over top of it helps keep any noise to a minimum as puffy jackets tend to be a little noisier by nature. Sometimes this is all you need, but if it’s super chilly (or you just like to be toasty warm like me) adding the ASAT Extreme Ultimate Jacket over top is the last layer to keep you in the tree all day.

The Extreme Ultimate Jacket and Pants are heavily insulated and feature the same quality and quiet zippers found on the Hurstwic set as well as the same great pocket locations. But as a warning, the Extreme Ultimate Set does pickup burrs (plus it’s super warm) so I wouldn’t recommend walking long distances through burr riddled brush. I’d also be sure to size up 1-2 sizes on this set as they do run small, we have a more realistic size measurement for these garments on our website product listings.

Head and Hands

The last thing we need to cover is our head and hands. In terms of ASAT Camo clothing, these are the garments I’m using. One of my favorite pieces is the ASAT Balaclava for my head/face covering. Because it goes over your head it stays in place, covering your head, ears and neck along with a face covering that stays where you put it! You can pull the face covering over your nose so only your eyes are showing, leave it under your nose or under your chin and it stays put, I love it. On top of that I wear a brown stocking cap, I’m just not a beanie guy personally.

For my hands I wear the ASAT Lightweight Stretchy Gloves, they aren’t insulated so I do use a hand muff to keep my hands warm until I have to make the shot but they’re very versatile for any season or temp and are better than grabbing your cold bow with your bare hand. They also have a phone screen friendly tip on your pointer finger so you can check your trail cam notification that lets you know that you were indeed, not in the right spot again (the pain is real)!

Well, that pretty much sums up all the ASAT Camo gear I wear for whitetail hunting. I hope this was helpful in deciding which garments you might need for the season ahead.

If you ever have any questions please let us know!

God Bless and Good Luck this Season!
